Implicit Bias: Weight Stigma in Health Care
Bias against individuals considered to be overweight is pervasive in health care settings. Although scientific understanding of the causes of obesity has advanced in recent years, patients in larger bodies continue to face a great deal of stigma based on outdated and incomplete ideas about willpower, energy balance models, and scolding as a motivator. In this course students will explore the concept of weight stigma as a type of implicit bias, learn how patients experience weight stigma in a variety of settings, and identify concrete strategies for disrupting weight stigma.
Chronic Pain: Therapies, Treatment, and Management Options
Chronic pain afflicts millions of Americans, results from a variety of causes, and contributes to missed work as well as increased financial burden. This course will review common causes of chronic pain, diagnosis and imaging, as well as pharmacologic management and non-pharmacologic treatment options. The learner will also learn the interprofessional roles in the team-based management of chronic pain. The intersection of chronic pain and diversity, equity and special populations will be explored.
The Latest on Ketamine and Esketamine for Treatment Resistant Depression
Depression is a global, widespread mental health disorder, affecting 350 million people. For some, current treatment modalities are not sufficient to support patient needs. This continuing education program will review and synthesize current evidence about the use of glutamate receptor modular medications (ketamine and esketamine) for treatment resistant depression. These medications have shown rapid and significant lifting of mood and suicidal ideation in symptomatic patients. An in-depth discussion of adverse effects, patient selection, treatment and administration protocols, and concerns for patient safety will be presented.

Wound Care 101
Chronic wounds do not improve in a predictable or typical trajectory and may persist for months or years. Underlying disease processes, extrinsic factors such as pressure and shear, nutritional factors, age, and comorbid conditions contribute to wound nonhealing. With increased prevalence, morbidity, mortality, and high financial burden associated with chronic wounds, the need to provide evidence-based wound care is imperative. Effective and comprehensive nursing care for people with wounds requires knowledge of wound etiology, presentation, and management. All nurses need more knowledge about the care of wounds. This course will delineate basic wound identification and etiologic description as well as address nonhealing risk factors.
