Continuing Education Requirements for New Jersey Nurses
The New Jersey Board of Nursing requires all New Jersey nurses to take continuing education requirements for their nurse license.
Requirements specific to Licensed Practical Nurses in New Jersey
Required Hours: 30
Required Courses: 2
New Jersey LPNs are required to complete 30 hours of CE every renewal
- 1 hour: Prescription Opioid Drugs including alternatives to opioids for managing and treating pain, and the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion
- 1 hour: Organ and Tissue Donation (one time requirement)

Requirements specific to Registered Nurses in New Jersey
Required Hours: 30
Required Courses: 2

- 1 hour: Organ and Tissue Donation
- 6 hours: Pharmacology

This course is intended to equip nurses and other healthcare providers with essential knowledge about Alzheimer’s Disease and cognitive decline. The population is aging and these diagnoses are growing more common. Nurses need to know the risk factors, presentation, and diagnostic criteria of Alzheimer’s Disease so that they can support their patients across care arenas. Communication strategies, non-drug interventions for behavior support and care planning strategies will also be discussed. By the completion of the course, the learner will demonstrate knowledge of Alzheimer’s Disease and cognitive decline by passing a post-test with a score ≥ 80%. The course is based on current empirical research and best-known evidence-based practices.

OSHA and the Safe Workplace
This course is intended to provide training on Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s workplace safety standards. Through this course, the learners will be able to understand the Hazard Communication Standards, know their rights and their employer’s responsibilities to provide a safe workplace, as well as recognize the best practices to ensure a trouble-free work environment.

Implicit Bias Training For Healthcare
This course is intended to teach help healthcare workers increase their knowledge of the impact of implicit bias on the provision of and outcomes of healthcare. Students will have the opportunity to evaluate and reflect upon their own implicit biases and will learn strategies for reducing the impact of implicit bias on the provision of healthcare. By the completion of the course, the learner will demonstrate knowledge of implicit biases and the impact on the provision of healthcare by passing a post-test with a score ≥ 80%. This course satisfies requirements for Michigan.
